This mural is a tribute to the civil rights icon and congressman from Georgia, John Robert Lewis.
15 artists were selected to produce a mural based on the theme of equity and inclusion. Artists were asked to create a design which reflected the relation of these topics to the City of Hoboken and how such ideas made communities stronger and healthier.

This mural is a tribute to Grammy nominated recording artist and Maplewood native, SZA.
Eight artists were selected to produce a mural which highlighted the town of Maplewood, NJ. Each work was created on a 4 x 8′ sheet of plywood and affixed to the walls of the NJ Transit station commuter walkway.

John F. Kennedy, W.E.B Du Bois, Melnea Cass and Mary Oliver. (L-R)
JFK cast his 1960 Presidential vote in the Old West Church at 131 Cambridge Street. W.E.B Du Bois was the first African-American to earn a doctorate from Harvard. Melnea Cass was a community and civil rights activist in Roxbury and the South End. Mary Oliver was a Pulitzer Prize winning poet whose many works were published in the city.

This mural is a message for the students of nearby P.S. 5. A biography of local physician Michael Conti (1895-1973), for whom the elementary school is named, adorns the side. Michael Conti was a man of the people, offering free medical services to local residents. JCMAP and the Village Community Group requested a mural for the students of P.S. 5 that highlighted the school’s namesake, and inspired them to have confidence in their abilities.

A biography of Mary Hudspeth Benson (1824-1904), for whom the park is named, adorns the side. Mary Benson was a benefactor and activist in Jersey City. JCMAP and the Village Community Group wanted all who use this park to learn about Mrs. Benson and help continue her legacy of philanthropy. On her death in 1904 The Evening Journal headline read, “No case of need neglected and never a deaf ear or cold word to a plea for help”.
